Ingredients

  • 6 servings “pizza crusts”, such as 
    • English muffins 
    • Naan bread 
    • Tortillas 
    • Pita bread  
    • Whole grain bread 
  • 125 mL (½ cup) pizza sauce 
  • 250 mL (1 cup) grated cheese, such as 
    • Mozzarella 
    • Feta 
    • Parmesan  
    • Cheddar  
    • Swiss  
    • Ricotta  
  • 125 mL (½ cup) other protein foods, such as 
    • canned shrimp, drained 
    • cooked ground beef 
    • cooked sliced chicken breast 
    • canned lentils, rinsed and drained 
    • canned black beans, rinsed and drained 
  • 250 mL (1 cup) vegetables, such as 
    • sliced tomatoes 
    • diced onion 
    • broccoli florets 
    • corn kernels 
    • sliced zucchini 
    • diced bell peppers 
    • chopped sun dried tomatoes 
    • spinach leaves 
    • sliced mushrooms 
  • 30 mL (2 Tbsp) each of flavour boosters, such as 
    • sliced pitted olives 
    • basil (dry or fresh) 
    • oregano (dry or fresh) 
    • parsley (dry or fresh) 

Directions

  1. Preheat oven or toaster oven to 190 °C (375 °F). 
  2. Shred, chop, or slice the toppings. 
  3. Split the English muffin (or other pizza crust) in half and place halves on a baking sheet. 
  4. Have each student spoon 1–2 Tbsp of pizza sauce onto their muffin half. 
  5. Have them add the toppings they would like in the order they want. 
  6. Bake for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and lightly browned. Cool for about two minutes before eating.
